October is great month in Barcelona if you are a music fan. It’s the month of the In-Edit music documentary festival. In-Edit began in 2003 and it started life as a small niche festival attracting just over a 1000 people.  It has now grown internationally with In-Edit festivals in Berlin, Buenos Aires, São Paulo and Puebla in Mexico. The interest in music documentaries has grown so much that recently some have won Oscars. Did you know that the summer solstice happens when the sun is in its highest position in the sky as the North Pole tilts towards the sun by 23.4˚? This is the longest day of the year in terms of sunlight as the sun is directly over the Tropic of Capricorn in the Northern Hemisphere. The exact date for this changes every year but it is somewhere around the 21st June. However, this event is not just important for astronomy. Morris dancing in May

In the UK the traditional May Day holiday is the first Monday in May.  This is a village festival that can be traced back to the ancient Roman festival of Flora (the Roman goddess of flowers). Barcelona holds its own light event in the middle of February (16th – 18th) called the “Festival Llum” to celebrate Santa Eulàlia.
