Meet a teacher – Part 1

Have you ever wondered about the teachers who work on our online courses? In this post we’ll meet Nelson Pringle. Nelson has been at teacher at the UOC since 2009 and is currently working on our C1 English courses. Find out more here…

Hi Nelson, thanks for your time, can you tell us a little bit about yourself?

I was born in Santa Fe, New Mexico, USA

I was born in New Mexico in the USA but I really grew up in Springfield, Illinois. Springfield is of course famous for being the city in the Simpsons but there are many cities called Springfield in America. When I was a university student I spent some time studying in the UK and when I finished my studies I came on holiday to Barcelona. I fell in love with the city and that was it, I’ve been here ever since. Now this is my home.

What do you do in your free time?

I live in Barcelona with my girlfriend and we enjoy the city life, meeting our friends, going to concerts, the cinema, museums and restaurants. Recently, we adopted a dog (Sugus) from a local animal shelter, so now we spend time walking with him. And I love reading, any spare moment I get in the day, I read.

What’s a typical working day like for you?

There is no such thing as a typical day for me. During the day I teach English to adults in businesses but my timetable varies a lot. Sometimes I can have very early starts. Generally I travel around Barcelona to my students and I am usually finished by 5pm. Then, when I get home I log onto the UOC campus to teach my online class there.

Do you have any advice for students who are studying on our language courses?

In C1 there are many interesting discussions in the forum and I often see that students who regularly participate in these discussions also make excellent progress.
